About Ludmila Gopin

I was born in Minsk, Belarus, and attended the Minsk Art College named for A.K. Glebova in the Painting Department from 1971 to 1975. Afterwards I attended The Minsk Academy of Fine Arts in the Monumental and Decorative Branch, from 1975 to 1979.

I have always been an active and eager participant in the fine arts community, participating in gallery exhibitions in Minsk as early as 1973 and selling works in Tel Aviv galleries up until my move to Montreal in 1996. My participation continues in North America as recently as the Toronto ArtExpo in 2013 and the New York ArtExpo in 2014.

A self-represented artist living in Montreal, Quebec, my paintings tend to be intuitive and improvised, richly textural, and explore a wide variation of themes and palettes. Much of my work is inspired by floral elements, whose forms often blend into abstraction, and the impressionist, gestural element in my painting has recently become a more central theme. Painting satisfies my deeper need to exercise my own creative explorations and interpretations. I paint using a variety of methods and tools including knives, brushes, direct hands-on manipulation, glazing impasto, and various other techniques.
